Today was the last day of summer break for Olivia and Cooper. Olivia will be starting Middle School tomorrow, and Cooper will be going to Kindergarten. They are both very excited but also a little nervous. I have to admit that I am not really ready for school to start. I enjoy having my kids at home with me (most of the time anyway), and I miss them terribly when they are gone. By Monday I will probably have a different attitude about all of it ~ I will have had 6 hours to myself before going to work!
Tonight was a bittersweet time for all of us. We enjoyed a nice meal with our friends - The Baxleys. Drew and their son, Bo, have been friends since they were infants. It was a time for them to be together one more time before they each leave for college. I am very proud of these guys. You couldn't ask for better kids! We will miss seeing Bo, but I know that Bo and Drew will miss each other more.
Tomorrow we will finish packing Drew's stuff and get the van loaded for our trip to Batesville. Drew has been making fun of me all summer for the tears that have occasionally slipped out. I have tried really hard not to be sad, but I am. I am not sad that Drew is moving forward with his life; I am very proud of him and very excited for him! My sadness is pure selfishness ~ I will miss not having my friend here with me every day.
Of course it doesn't help things when he comes in and says things like, "I am really gonna miss Olivia." The tears started flowing again.
And so begins the next stage of our lives...
